There are several exquisite dining options available locally, some include Michelin Star chefs and all are within 45 minutes driving distance, these include: Shaun Rankin* at The Grantley Hall in Ripon, Alice Hawthorn in Nun Monkton , Tommy Banks* at the Black Swan in Olstead, Andrew Pern’s* The Star Inn in Harome, Raby Hunt** in Summerhouse near Darlington and The Bayhorse at Hurworth.

Shaun Rankin* at Grantley Hall, RIPON
Distance - 15 minutes Drive
This stunning hotel has multiple restaurants, the grounds and building itself is breath-taking. Their Sean Rankin restaurant has a Michelin star. We love Fletchers, it’s a white table cloth affair and their steak tartar and beef wellington is to die for. They have an outdoor heated restaurant and an Asian fusion.

Alice Hawthorn, nun Monkton
Distance - 25 minutes Drive
A stunning country pub in a village that is often fully booked. The service and food is beyond that of a gastropub but not as pretentious as a Michelin star. For us its sheer perfection (if a little pricey).

TOMMY BANKS* AT THE BLACK SWAN, OLDSTEAD
Distance - 30 minutes Drive
This wonderful restaurant by Tommy Banks (who also has roots in York) has a Michelin star and is simply beautiful. It’s a little quiet and stiff for our liking but the food and experience Is wonderful.
Andrew Pern’s* THE STAR INN, HAROME
Distance - 40 minutes Drive
It’s perfect and consistently exceptional, and in addition to a la carte and tasting menus they have a bargain market menu for bar area seating reservations – it cost around £35 for 2 courses but you eat what they serve.

Raby Hunt**, SUMMERHOUSE nr DARLINGTON
Distance - 45 minutes Drive
2 Star Michelin restaurants are a rarity in our region. We haven’t been yet, but we have heard the rave reviews from friends and it’s on our hit list when we have a spare £400.

BAYHORSE, HURWORTH on tees
Distance - 45 minutes Drive
It is stunning, and the reviews / write ups are amazing. Upmarket dining but casual and friendly. We strongly recommend it despite the distance.
